FAQ
How long is the waiting list for an assessment?
We try and arrange most assessments within two to four weeks of referral. Autism assessments can have a longer waiting list as they have a number of sessions.
How do I make an appointment?
Please get in touch by phone on 01 4992217 and we’d be happy to arrange an assessment for you. Or email us on info@hotpink-gaur-692692.hostingersite.com/demosite, or through our Contact Form and one of our team will get in touch to arrange a suitable date. Early booking is advised due to high demand.
What kind of assessment should I choose?
There are a number of different types of assessment to choose from. You can see a full list of our assessments and prices here but below is a summarised description of some of the assessment services offered at Éirim:
If you are concerned about your child’s progress in school or feel that they may have a learning disability (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, general learning difficulty), you should choose the psycho-educational assessment. This type of assessment also assists if you are looking for advice or supporting documentation for Irish exemptions, assistive technology or accommodations during exams in secondary school (reader, spelling and grammer waivers, etc).
If your child has previously had a psycho-educational assessment and you would like an update on their literacy and/or maths progress, you should choose the attainment assessment.
If you are looking to assess whether your child is gifted or looking to assess their eligibility to apply to CTYI or Mensa, you should choose the cognitive assessment.
If your child is under three and you have concerns about their early development, such as early learning, behaviour, mixing with peers, language, or motor skills, you should choose a developmental assessment.
If you are concerned whether your child is on the autism spectrum, you should choose the multi-disciplinary autism diagnostic assessment.
If you are still unsure of which assessment is the best fit for your needs, you can arrange a 30-minute consultation with one of our psychologists to determine which type of assessment would best support your child’s needs. You can book this consultation here

Is there parking available at Éirim’s office?
Yes, there are some free onsite parking spaces specifically for Éirim’s clients.
How long does the assessment with my child take?
This depends on the type of assessment being carried out but most assessments take between 1.5 – 2 hours to complete.
Autism assessments take longer as these are conducted over different days, but generally, each session with your child takes approximately 1 hour.
How should I prepare my child for the assessment?
Talk to your child about where you are going, whom you will be seeing, and what they will be doing during the assessment. This can help alleviate anxiety for many children (but certainly not all children). For example, if your assessment will take place in our office, you can look at pictures on this website of the office and also who will be involved in your child’s assessment. Let them know that the people will be friendly, the setting will be comfortable, and that they can take breaks if they need to while they are here.
The words “testing” and “assessment” can often cause anxiety in children. For younger children, you may wish to emphasise the play aspect, focusing on the fact that they will be completing puzzles and word games. For older children, it is often helpful to describe both games and school-type work, but there are no marks or grades given.
Make sure that your child gets a good night’s sleep before the assessment and eats a healthy breakfast in the morning.
What should I bring to the assessment on the day?
If your child wears glasses or a hearing aid, please make sure to bring these on the day of the assessment.
Pack a small snack and a drink for refueling during the break.
Do I need to submit documents before the assessment?
Yes. You will be asked to complete an online questionnaire before the assessment. You will also be asked to provide copies of any relevant reports from other professionals (e.g., psychological reports, occupational therapy reports).
We also look for information from your child’s school (via school online form) when applicable.
Will I receive a written report?
Yes, following your child’s assessment you will receive a detailed written report outlining all of the testing carried out with your child, the results, and personalised recommendations.
How long does it take until I receive my report?
We aim to have your detailed assessment report with you within approximately 3 weeks of the assessment date.
Autism diagnostic assessment reports usually take a little longer, taking approximately 4 weeks once all the assessment components have been completed.
The report cannot be dispatched before full payment is received.
Are reports accepted by the HSE/Department of Education?
Yes. All of Éirim’s assessments are carried out to the highest standards by experienced Psychologists. Where applicable, reports are written according to the guidelines of the Department of Education and Skills and other agencies (e.g. the National Council for Special Education, Disability Access Route to Education).
Can you recommend assistive technology, special school placement, etc. for my child?
Yes, provided that the assessment results meet the criteria established by the Department of Education and Skills.
Will the report have recommendations for home and school?
Yes. Whether your child is found to have a disability or not, the report will describe in detail the strengths of the child and what areas need to be addressed and supported at home and school.
Are remote assessment possible?
Yes, some of our assessments can be offered as remote assessments for people over the age of 11. If this is something you would like to organise please contact our team and we can assess whether this is a suitable option for your specific needs.
Parental interviews and feedback sessions can be conducted remotely.
How can I pay for services?
Payment may be made by credit or debit card (online, over the phone, or in person), via bank transfer, cheque or cash.
The report cannot be dispatched before payment is received.
