Attainments Assessment

Attainments Assessment

Evaluating Academic Skills in Areas of Difficulty

An attainments assessment provides a detailed evaluation of an individual’s literacy and/or numeracy skills, focusing primarily on areas of concern where difficulties may be present.

This assessment is most commonly carried out when an individual has already had a cognitive assessment and does not require a reassessment of their intellectual abilities. It is often used to track academic progress, assess the effectiveness of interventions, or provide updated recommendations for school support.

However, in some cases, an attainments assessment may also be used to gain a broader overview of academic skills, particularly when there are concerns about overall learning progress. The assessment can be tailored to focus on specific areas (e.g., reading, writing, or maths) or to provide a general academic profile, depending on the referral question.

What to Expect from a Attainments Assessment

Our Attainments Assessment  process is designed to be thorough, clear, and supportive for both the individual and their family:

    Pre-Assessment Information Gathering

We gather information from parents and school staff (where applicable) to understand the individual’s academic history, strengths, and challenges. We also review any previous reports to track progress over time.

    Assessment Session

Standardised attainment tests are used to evaluate key academic skills. This may focus on a specific area of difficulty (e.g., reading, writing, or maths) or provide a more general overview, depending on the referral question.

    Verbal Feedback

Parents receive immediate verbal feedback after the assessment, summarising key findings and discussing initial recommendations.

    Detailed Report

A comprehensive written report is provided, outlining assessment results, academic progress, and personalised recommendations for home and school.
