4 Rainy Day Crafts You Can Make With Things You Already Have at Home!

1. Sensory Bottle

What you will need:

  • 1 Container with a watertight lid
  • Examples: old water bottle, pasta sauce jar
  • 1 Suspension fluid
  • Examples: hand soap, corn syrup, clear craft glue
  • Craft glitter
  • Extras
  • Examples: small buttons or beads

Instructions:

  • Fill the container with suspension fluid
  • Add glitter
  • Shake and enjoy!

2. “I Spy” or “Find It” Jar

What you will need:

  • 1 Medium to large soda bottle  
  • Rice or sand
  • Pen and paper
  • An assortment of small objects
  • Examples: small buttons, beads, small toys, costume jewelry, office supplies, coins, game pieces.

Instructions:

  • Fill a large bottle with rice or sand
  • add small toys & found objects.
  • Create a list of all the object placed in the bottle
  • Sake spin and twist the bottle until all items are found.

3. Plastic Bag Green House

What you will need:

  • 1 Sealable plastic bag
  • Beans, or old produce seeds (oranges, peppers, etc)  
  • Paper towel
  • Cello tape
  • Water
  • A Window

Instructions:

  • Wet paper towel
  • Place in a plastic baggie
  • Add seeds or beans to the baggie
  • Tape baggie to a window  
  • Wait and watch your beans and seeds sprout!

4. Salt dough

What you will need:

  • Flour 256g
  • Salt 128g
  • Water 180ml

     Optional–

  • Food coloring
  • An oven

Instructions:

  • Mix salt, flour, and water.
  • Knead mixture
  • Enjoy!

    Bonus steps–

  • Carefully divide and add small amounts of food coloring to dough portions for even more fun!
  • Creations can be dried and preserved by placing them into an oven at 180c oven. Duration of dry time depends on creation.
